A compact, lightweight mirrorless camera featuring the world's fastest 0.02-second (※1) high-speed AF, along with high-speed, high-precision "Real-time Eye AF" and "Real-time Tracking" functions.
■ High-speed, high-precision, highly tracking AF performance
In addition to the Fast Hybrid AF system, which uses both focal-plane phase-detection AF and contrast-detection AF, this camera incorporates the latest BIONZ X image processing engine for high-speed processing, and optimizes the motion prediction algorithm from full-frame mirrorless cameras, achieving the world's fastest 0.02-second (※1) AF. With 425 high-density phase-detection AF points covering approximately 84% of the image area, along with 425 contrast-detection AF points, a wide and dense arrangement of AF points allows for highly accurate subject tracking. Furthermore, it achieves an AF detection brightness range as low as EV-2 (※ISO100 equivalent, with F2.0 lens) in AF-S mode, enabling highly accurate AF shooting even in dark scenes.

■ Real-time Eye AF with improved detection accuracy and speed
The accuracy and speed of the Real-time Eye AF function, which instantly detects eye information through AI (Artificial Intelligence) object recognition, have been improved. Even in challenging situations for focusing, such as when a person looks down from the front, turns around, or in backlit scenes where the face is dark, the camera instantly detects and tracks the eyes. Furthermore, convenience has been improved, such as the ability to detect the subject's eyes simultaneously when the shutter button is pressed halfway, regardless of the focus mode setting.
■ Newly developed high-performance Real-time Tracking
The latest algorithm, including AI-based object recognition, from the full-frame mirrorless camera 'α9' has been optimized and inherited. It quickly detects spatial information such as distance, patterns, and brightness of the subject, and accurately recognizes and continuously tracks subjects with complex movements and varying speeds. Especially for human and animal subjects, the AI simultaneously recognizes eye position information in real time. This is effective for both still images and video recording.
■ High image quality achieved with the same latest generation BIONZ X image processing engine as the 'α9' and 'α7R III'
In addition to an effective approximately 24.2-megapixel APS-C sensor that achieves high light-gathering efficiency through copper wiring and high-efficiency circuit processes, it adopts the same latest generation image processing system as full-frame mirrorless cameras. By renewing the BIONZ X image processing engine and the front-end LSI that supports image processing, it achieves ISO100 to 102400 (expanded for still images), providing excellent low-noise performance even in high-sensitivity shooting in dark places or dimly lit interiors. Furthermore, an algorithm that achieves high color reproduction accurately depicts human skin tones with a natural impression. Moreover, it supports 16-bit image processing within the system and 14-bit RAW output, allowing for richer tonal expression.
